WIMBLEDON CHAMPION 'NOT FULLY HEALED' TO FEATURE AT AO

World No.10 and current Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejčíková has revealed she is "not fully healed" to participate at the Australian Open.

The 29-year-old Czech hasn't been seen on court since her semi-final defeat against China's Qinwen Zheng at the WTA Finals in November.

Krejčíková wrote a message via X to update her fans and the tennis world about the difficult decision to skip the season's first Grand Slam.

"Hi everyone, I wanted to share a quick update regarding my withdrawal from the Australian Open," she said.

"Unfortunately, my back injury, which troubled me at the end of last season, is still not fully healed. It’s really disappointing because I love playing in Melbourne and have such great memories from reaching the quarterfinals last year.

"Thanks to all of you for your support. I’m working hard to get back to full health, and I can’t wait to see you on the court soon!"

Krejčíková's best result at Melbourne Park is a quarter-final appearance in 2022 and 2024.

As well as winning her first Wimbledon title last year, Krejčíková also won the 2021 French Open.

Canada's Rebecca Marino, world No.98, will take up the vacant position in the Australian Open main draw.
