Multiple records were broken in the early hours of Monday morning as Jannik Sinner claimed his maiden Nitto ATP Finals crown in front of a wild home crowd in Turin.
The 23-year-old became the first Italian to clinch the title, defeating America's Taylor Fritz 6-4 6-4 in a US Open final rematch.
Sinner was near-flawless en route to the championship, failing to concede more than four games in a set and losing the least games in a single ATP Finals event in history (33).
To add to the astonishing list of achievements, Sinner won the tournament without dropping a set, which had not been accomplished since 1986.
During the post-match ceremony, the year-end world No.1 felt the love from the home faithful at the Inalpi Arena.
In what has been a challenging past few months for Sinner behind the scenes since news about the doping scandal came to light, the Italian crowd reminded the two-time Grand Slam champion that he is loved and admired.
"It's the first title in Italy and it means so much to me," said Sinner, who also won the Next Gen ATP Finals in 2019. "It's something very, very, very special."
Attention now turns to Davis Cup action in Málaga later this week, where Sinner will hope to help Italy win back-to-back titles.
