Australia is on the cusp of seeing five women in the singles top-100 following semi-final appearances from Ajla Tomljanović and Daria Saville.

Riddled by injuries for the past couple of years, Tomljanović's luck in three-set matches ran out against last year's US Open finalist Jessica Pegula, going down 1-6 6-4 3-6 at Austin's ATX Open.

The three-time Slam quarter-finalist had won all three encounters that went the distance in 2025 prior to her loss to Pegula, including back-to-back wins in Austin.

Tomljanović, a former world No.32, has risen 17 places to No.94 in the live rankings.

In Mexico, Saville was left to rue missed chances to capitalise on an early break in the opening set of her semi-final against Colombia's Emiliano Arango, falling 3-6 6-4 2-6 at the Merida Open semis.

Her victory over sixth-seed Marta Kostyuk was her first main draw win since Wimbledon last year, while also winning consecutive matches in main draw singles action for the first time in nearly 12 months.

The 30-year-old's efforts lift her 12 spots to No.109, who also won two rounds of qualifying to enter the WTA 500 event.

With Maya Joint, Kimberly Birrell and Olivia Gadecki already in the top-100 as of the latest rankings release on Monday February 24, Tomljanović and Saville could also cement themselves in that group and provide stronger Australian representation.
