Injury nightmares are again haunting Ajla Tomljanović, confirming her withdrawal from the Brisbane and Hobart Internationals to cast doubt over her 2025 Australian Open campaign.
Yesterday, The First Serve reported that the 31-year-old would sit out of the Brisbane 500 event starting Sunday, December 29 and the Hobart 250 tournament, commencing the following weekend.
Ranked No.109, Tomljanović had already secured a wildcard to play in Brisbane, and was part of the Hobart International's plans to give her a wildcard.
In a post on her Instagram story, Tomljanović shared the news.
“I’m so disappointed to withdraw from the Brisbane International, but I wanted to be 100% ready to compete, which I am not. I’ll continue my prep and see you all at the Australian Open,” wrote the three-time Grand Slam quarter-finalist.
Since her 2022 US Open quarter-final run where she defeated the outgoing Serena Williams, Tomljanović has played 25 tournaments in 27 months.
Having also received a wildcard to enter the Australian Open main draw, the former world No.32 is in a race against time to be fit, with the first Grand Slam of the year kicking off on Sunday, January 12.
