'SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING': DJOKOVIC WANTS UNITY AFTER SINNER MESS

Former world No.1 Novak Djokovic has slammed multiple governing bodies for their handling of the Jannik Sinner doping case.

Last week, Sinner learned that the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) would appeal the decision from the International Tennis Integrity Association (ITIA) not to ban the 23-year-old.

In March after a Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells, the Italian twice tested positive for Clostebol, a banned substance discovered in Sinner's system due to a massage from his physio, Giacomo Naldi, in which the steroid was found in a healing spray used by Naldi for his finger.

Djokovic, who recently touched down in Shanghai for the second-last Masters event for 2024, weighed in on the hotly debated issue.

"I think it's quite obvious that we have a system that is not working well," said Djokovic during his pre-tournament press conference.

"There's way too many inconsistencies, way too many governing bodies involved and this whole case is not helping our sport at all.

"Whatever is going to happen at the end of the day, I just wish for it to be resolved as soon as possible."

The 24-time Grand Slam winner hopes the unfortunate scenario can resolve itself and showcased his support towards Sinner during a challenging moment.

"I think he has won the three appeals so far that he had and it must be very tough for him and his team and family," Djokovic said.

"It’s impressive what he’s been doing in the whole process of what’s been happening and he’s playing on such a high level, winning Grand Slams and winning most of the matches that he plays.

"This situation or these circumstances are not positive for our sport. So, hopefully, we can resolve this case as soon as possible, whatever was going to happen at the end of the day, I just wish for it to be resolved as soon as possible."
