Diana Shnaider claimed her first professional title on the WTA Tour, defeating Leolia Jeanjean 6-4, 6-4 in the final of the WTA 125K Montevideo Open.
Shnaider’s first career title will see her rise to a career-high No. 109 on the live WTA rankings.
In the opening set, Shnaider got off to the perfect start, breaking Jeanjean in her first two service games. Jeanjean, the No. 10 seed, showed resilience to gain one break of serve back, however, it was not enough to stop Shnaider from closing out the first set.
Shnaider gained a crucial break of serve in the ninth game of the second set, which gave her the opportunity to serve for her maiden title. She showed composure beyond her experience to close out a memorable victory.
Jeanjean’s serving proved to be her downfall as she served seven double faults and was only serving at 49% on her first serve
Despite falling short of the title, Jeanjean will rise to inside the top 110 of the WTA rankings for the first time in her career.
