Luke Saville’s farewell tournament will reach Rod Laver Arena tonight as he and his partner Li Tu were victorious in the all-Australian doubles clash against James Duckworth and Aleksandar Vukic.

The pair were always in control of the clash on 1573 Arena, taking three break point opportunities in the first set and two in the second to set up a 6-1 7-5 victory.

Tomorrow night, they will play Andre Goransson and Sem Verbeek in what could be a thrilling conclusion to Saville’s career, after he announced that he would be hanging up his racquet at the end of the tournament.

Olivia Gadecki and John Peers also notched up a strong victory over Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Robert Galloway 7-6(11) 6-1. After winning a tight tiebreak on the back of some inspired play from Peers, they took the early break in the second set and never looked back.

Ellen Perez was also victorious in the mixed doubles alongside Kevin Krawietz however, lost in straight sets in women’s doubles alongside Elise Mertens to the talented pair of Marta Kostyuk and Elena-Gabriela Ruse.

With the exception of those victories, it was a tough day for the Australian doubles contingent with Tristan Schoolkate and Adam Walton losing comprehensively to Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram while several mixed doubles pairs also lost in the first round.
