'RESILIENT' COCO REIGNS SUPREME IN THREE-HOUR CLASSIC

For the first time, Coco Gauff has claimed the Billie Jean King trophy after an epic battle against Australian Open finalist Qinwen Zheng in Riyadh.

The 20-year-old American recovered after dropping the opening set to eventually pull through 3-6 6-4 7-6(2) in three hours and four minutes.

Since data has been tracked in 2008, it is the longest final in the WTA Finals.

It marks the biggest title for the world No.3 since winning the US Open on home soil last year.

"Just staying resilient, fighting for every point," Gauff said after the final. "I know I was like a couple points away from losing, but I just tried to stay in the moment, honestly, and I'm really proud of myself."

"At the end of the match, when I, like, fell on the floor, I didn't think I was going to do that," said Gauff. "I kind of made a promise to myself that I will only save that for Grand Slams, but honestly, to the way the match went, I was like, 'I'm just tired. I just want to lay on the ground.'"

Gauff thanked her supporters on X after the win, but also aimed a dig at those who don't want to see her succeed.

"I know tend to focus on “doubters/haters” but this one is really for all of my supporters! Ya’ll held it down for me win or lose! I thank you for that. I see you and I appreciate you. And I know some of you are a little bit petty like me so it does feel nice to silence them for a bit."
