Promising Aussie teenager Emerson Jones keeps going from strength to strength by claiming the NSW 75k event, her first ITF singles title on tour.
The 16-year-old entered the tournament as a wildcard, dropping one set for the entire week against top seed Talia Gibson en route to the final.
Jones defeated second-seed and world No.155 Taylah Preston 6-4 7-6(3) to advance 158 spots in the WTA rankings to a career-high No.426.
"It was a tough final and Taylah played amazing," Jones said after the match.
"I have played some of my best tennis this week and I am really proud of what I have accomplished.
"I couldn’t have done it without my team and know my family are watching at home in Queensland."
Jones became the first Australian to win the ITF Junior World Tour Finals two weeks ago in Chengdu, China.
She also etched her name in the history books earlier this year by becoming the first Aussie female to claim the No.1 junior ranking, having already reached two junior Grand Slam finals at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
