MILLMAN BELIEVES SINNER IS '100 PER CENT CLEAN' AMID BAN FURORE

2018 US Open quarter-finalist John Millman insists world No.1 Jannik Sinner is "100 per cent clean" after the Italian accepted a three-month doping ban.

Nick Kyrgios and three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka have been two of the most high-profile names to question the sport's integrity since the news broke, believing that "fairness in tennis does not exist".

Millman, former Australian world No.33, appeared on ABC's Summer Grandstand to share his view, remaining adamant that the sport is "probably one of the cleanest around".

"I don't think he's had any performance enhancement throughout his career and I'm trusting the experts on that," he said.

"Should he have been banned a little bit longer? That's what's up in the air, and everyone's going to have their opinion on that.

"I think the game is better off having our best players playing. Obviously, I want them to be playing clean.

"In terms of performance enhancing, I think our sport's probably one the cleanest around."

The 35-year-old previously added that the situation is "not unprecedented" given what happened at the end of last year with five-time major winner Iga Świątek and her one-month ban for failing a doping test.

"You got to remember that this has been a long time in the making to get to this point," Millman said when referring to Sinner's case.

"Having said that, I feel as if where the frustrations are with the playing group, where the frustrations lie with the public, is the fact that it does feel like there is potentially horses for courses.

"There's different rules of play depending on who you are in the game.

"There are some people who might not have as big of a stature as a Jannik Sinner, who hasn't maybe been treated with the same proceedings as Jannik was afforded."

Former world No.1 Simona Halep is one example, as she tested positive for a banned substance in 2022 which warranted a four-year suspension, only for that ban to be reduced to nine months despite the Romanian already having missed 18 months.
