Nick Kyrgios has ignited an already burning flame, this time spamming Cruz Hewitt’s Instagram post relating to world No.1 Jannik Sinner.
Hewitt, 16, trained with Sinner on Rod Laver Arena yesterday afternoon in preparation for the Australian Open, as the Aussie teenager begins his qualifying campaign after being provided a wildcard.
A couple of hours after the session had concluded, Hewitt posted two photos of Sinner and himself on Instagram, comparing them from 2020 to now.
Although he arrives as the defending champion at Melbourne Park, Sinner will likely be required to answer further questions about the controversial doping case which resulted in two positive tests related to Clostebol.
With Kyrgios continually being outspoken about the topic, it was no surprise to see the former Wimbledon finalist aim jabs at Hewitt and Sinner.
"Thought we were boys," (with nine broken heart emojis) one comment read.
"Love ya Cruz but this is wild," he continued.
"Cooked post," (with a needle emoji) Kyrgios added.
But Kyrgios' comments quickly received backlash from tennis fans, making their feelings known in the comments section. "He's 16 and you are 29 man... this is pathetic," one person wrote.
Another replied: "Come on, don't you have better things to do [than] harass kids? It's high time you stopped that, you should be ashamed of yourself."
"Stop it man! you are embarrassing yourself...go away," added another Instagram user.
It comes one week after Kyrgios referred to Sinner and Iga Świątek's positive doping results as "disgusting for our sport".
"I know that people don't like when I just speak out about things, be honest about things," he said. "For a kid [who] grew up playing tennis, I enjoyed the competition, I enjoyed playing. I can get emotional, I can throw a racquet, but that's nothing compared to cheating and taking performance-enhancing drugs. That's ridiculous in my opinion."
