KOKKINAKIS WITHDRAWS FROM BRISBANE, ADMITS HE 'NEEDS MORE TIME'

Australia's Thanasi Kokkinakis has confirmed his withdrawal from the upcoming Brisbane International to fully recover from injury.

Earlier today, The First Serve reported that Kokkinakis would skip the event in which he received a wildcard to participate.

The 28-year-old posted on X where he updated fans about his current position.

"Sad to miss @BrisbaneTennis this year," Kokkinakis wrote. "Dealing with a small hip issue that needs some more time, but hopefully back for the rest of the summer."

The world No.77 claimed a Challenger title in Sydney at the start of November — the last tournament he featured in.

Kokkinakis will be hoping to make a full recovery in time to appear in his home city at the Adelaide International on January 6 — an event he won in 2022.
