'IT'S CRAZY!': JOINT TAKES DOWN FORMER AO WINNER; REACHES HOBART SF'S

18-year-old Maya Joint has become the first Aussie to reach a singles semi-final this summer.

The young Queenslander’s giant-killing run in Hobart continued with a straight-sets with over former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin.

She took just over an hour to dispatch the world No.81 American 6-3 6-1.

Joint said after the match that she was relishing playing at the Hobart tournament.

"It’s crazy. I feel really good right now," she said.

"I played really well today. I think we had a good match. She definitely tested how low I could get. She hit the ball very flat."

Joint hasn’t just won her three matches in Hobart, she has dominated them.

The rising teenager has conceded 11 games in six sets against far higher-ranked opponents.

Currently at No.118, Joint now sits at No.105 in the live rankings a career-high.

One more win will propel her inside the top-100 and become Australia’s highest-ranked female.

Her next opponent will be second seed Elise Mertens for a shot at the final.

"I’m just so excited to be in the semis. I can’t wait to play again," Joint said.

Whatever happens in Hobart, Joint faces an even tougher test at next week’s Australian Open.

She has drawn world No.7 and last year's US Open finalist Jessica Pegula in the first-round.
