NOT IMPOSSIBLE: HOW DE MINAUR CAN PROGRESS IN THE ATP FINALS

Another defeat overnight means Alex de Minaur is still searching for his first-ever ATP Finals win, but semi-final qualification is still on the cards.

The 25-year-old has yet to win a set in Turin, ousted by Daniil Medvedev and world No.1 Jannik Sinner both in straight sets.

It leaves de Minaur with a mountain to climb heading into his final round-robin match against Taylor Fritz. Still, all four players in the group are within a shout of cementing their place in the top-two and qualifying.

For de Minaur to progress, he not only needs to defeat Fritz in straight sets but also attain a higher game-win percentage (currently trailing 16.14 per cent).

The Aussie will need to claim victory by a margin of at least seven games (eg: 6-3 6-2) and hope Sinner beats Daniil Medvedev in the other fixture by a minimum of seven games to clinch second spot.
