Controversial Australian player Bernard Tomic has added to his file of bizarre incidents, kicked out of a Challenger final in Santo Domingo for heckling one of the finalists who previously beat him.
Ecuadorian Andres Andrade defeated Tomic 6-2, 6-2 in the quarter-finals on Friday, but the pair did not shake hands after the contest due to heated exchanges and disagreements throughout.
Despite being eliminated, Tomic kept his bags unpacked and prolonged his stay in the Dominican Republic to watch the final between Andrade and Bosnia's Damir Dzumhur.
After hearing distracting noises from Tomic's section of the crowd, Andrade was seething and demanded the German-born Aussie to be removed from the venue.
“I want this guy to be taken out,” he told the chair umpire.
Tournament officials soon escorted Tomic out of the stands after the first set, going through all the effort to switch ends every few games to heckle Andrade.
Much to Tomic's pleasure, Andrade lost the final 6-4, 6-4 in what will be overshadowed by crazy scenes.
It marks another stain on the 31-year-old's career, just two months after he retired following the completion of one set, arguing with his girlfriend as she tested positive for Covid.
The past couple of years have seen big improvements from Tomic, climbing roughly 600 places to world No.238 - grinding it out in the lower-tier events without positioning himself in the spotlight.
