'I HOPE WE SEE THE SAME OPTION ALLOWED': DE MINAUR REACTS TO SINNER BAN

Alex de Minaur is the latest player to speak up over Jannik Sinner's controversial three-month doping ban, a situation that the tennis world has "never seen" before.

The 26-year-old holds an unwanted record against the Italian world No.1, being on the receiving end of 10 straight defeats.

Despite entering as the No.2 seed after Sinner's suspension, de Minaur recently exited the Doha Open after a crazy three-set rollercoaster that saw Andrey Rublev progress in the quarter-finals.

Speaking to BB Tennis, de Minaur offered his take on the different treatment standards around doping.

"It’s tough because we have seen something that has never happened," he said.

"In the past, it has always been a year or two years. It has always been much larger. It is something we have never seen, and I guess if someone else, or the next person, is in a similar position, I hope we see the same option being allowed."

Sinner is due to return on May 4, three days before the Rome Masters in the lead-up to the French Open.
