HUNTER 'CAN'T WAIT TO GET BACK' AS SHE PROVIDES INJURY UPDATE

Former women's doubles No.1 Storm Hunter has opened up on her "long and hard" journey recovering from a gruesome anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury as she closes in on a return.

The 30-year-old Queenslander ruptured her right Achilles during Australia's practice session before their Billie Jean King Cup tie against Mexico in April this year.

As a result, the former US Open mixed doubles champion missed the opportunity to represent the green and gold at the Paris Olympics.

Hunter updated her fans on social media six months after the devastating injury occurred, assuring everyone that her progress is on track.

"Haven’t given an Achilles update for a while but we’ve just hit the 6 month mark. Not gonna lie, it’s been long and hard, with many moments filled with fear, doubt and anxiety. But with each new milestone, I have started to feel more confident and more like myself again.

It’s been so important to acknowledge and celebrate these small wins as they have been the building blocks of my recovery. While it’s still a long road ahead, I’m proud of how far I’ve come. I’m excited for the next phase of my rehab and the challenges that will come along with that (hello running and jumping!!). Long-term injuries suck!! But I’m planning to come back better and stronger than before.

If you are facing a similar challenge, just know you aren’t alone. It’s okay to have doubts and fear, but what matters most is that you keep showing up and you keep moving forward, no matter how small the steps may seem.

Big love to my family and my team for being there every step of the way. And to the tennis world, thank you for your ongoing support - can’t wait to get back on court in 2025."
