FORMER AO CHAMPION WITHDRAWS FROM MELBOURNE PARK

2018 Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki has withdrawn from Melbourne Park.

The former world No.1 hasn't appeared on court since last year's fourth-round defeat against Brazil's Beatriz Haddad Maia at the US Open.

Unlike last year's Australian Open, Wozniacki was set to enter the main draw without a wildcard thanks to her protected ranking (No.70), but due to unspecified reasons, the Dane will skip the tournament after her name was removed from the official entry list.

In December 2023, Wozniacki expressed her excitement about returning to the event.

"I have so many wonderful memories of Melbourne, and of course, winning the Australian Open is an all-time career highlight. Melbourne's one of my favourite cities in the world, and I can't wait to share it with my family and my kids," she said.

"It's obviously a tournament I feel extremely comfortable at. I love the balls, I love the court, and I love the fans."

Three-and-a-half-years after hanging up the racquet, she made her comeback after announcing her retirement due to being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, a chronic disease contributing to inflammation around the body.

Wozniacki defeated another former world No.1, Simona Halep, in the Australian Open final seven years ago, where she claimed her only major trophy.
