ELLEN PEREZ WINS ABU DHABI TITLE PARTNERING FORMER FRENCH OPEN WINNER

Australia's Ellen Perez has claimed her first doubles title for the 2025 season after an unstoppable run in Abu Dhabi.

The 29-year-old paired up with 2017 French Open singles champion and reigning US Open doubles winner Jeļena Ostapenko, as the duo defeated No.4 seeds Kristina Mladenovic and Shuai Zheng 6-2 6-1 in the decider.

Perez and Ostapenko entered the event as top-seeds, broken four times throughout the entire tournament without dropping a set.

Last season, Perez partnered with American Nicole Melichar-Martinez, where she achieved her career-high ranking of No.7 in August.

However, in the off-season, she switched partners to team up with four-time doubles major winner Elise Mertens, hoping to win Grand Slams and Masters titles.

The Belgian played alongside Perez at the Australian Open, suffering defeat in the second-round.

Due to Mertens' singles commitments, having won a title in Singapore last week and preparing for the Doha Open, she opted to skip Abu Dhabi.

Perez's recent title moves her four places back inside the top-10, currently sitting at No.9 in the live WTA doubles rankings.
