Australia's Ellen Perez has given an update on her freak injury sustained during yesterday's doubles match at the Australian Open.

The doubles specialist, ranked No.10 in the live rankings, copped a ball straight to her right eye, clipping the tape on the way through.

It occurred during the fourth game of the second set, as the visibly concerned chair umpire raced down to check on Perez's condition along with doubles partner Elise Mertens and their opponents, Marta Kostyuk and Elena-Gabriela Ruse.

Despite the fourth game still going, Perez was attended by a trainer to assist her injury, as she was heard telling the umpire, "feels like it's coming down a little".

Today via her Instagram account, the 29-year-old updated her followers regarding her bruised and swollen eye.

"Just an update — a little bit puffy, a little bit purple and very ugly," she said in the video before giving the all-clear with a positive thumbs up.

The caption on the video read: "Update for all my concerned friends. Thanks for all the nice messages (love heart emoji)."

Perez and Mertens suffered a straight-sets defeat to end their doubles campaign in the second-round.

However, the Aussie is still alive in the mixed doubles, partnering Germany's Kevin Krawietz to qualify for the second-round.
