World No.33 Alexander Bublik believes ATP 250 and Challenger events are not worth the hassle from a financial perspective.
Although the 27-year-old featured in seven 250 tournaments in 2024, his motive was to accumulate rankings points, where 42 per cent of his 1,420 ATP points this season came from those events.
"Honestly, I believe that ATP 250 tournaments should not be played, where only $50,000 is paid to the champion," said Bublik. "This money is useless to us, as we spend more just on our team's expenses and flights. I don't think we need tournaments of this category nor the Challengers; this is my message to the circuit.
"After more than seven years on the tour, I simply realised that playing these tournaments doesn't make sense unless you want to earn additional points in the world rankings.
"This season, for example, I myself played some ATP 250 tournaments, but I did it only with the goal of earning some points. Tennis players need to make a living, so these kinds of tournaments are not of particular interest to us."
Bublik has earned A$11.7 million in prize money throughout his career, but the discrepancy in the financial pyramid still lingers as a massive concern heading into 2025.
January offers three ATP 250 events, including the Brisbane International, Adelaide International and New Zealand's Auckland Open.
