Serbia were unable to close out a 2-0 lead without star man Novak Djokovic in their Davis Cup qualifier, falling to Denmark in Copenhagen.

On Day 1, world No.14 Holger Rune was stunned 2-6 6-3 6-1 against 2023 Next Gen winner Hamad Medjedovic, leaving his nation's hopes of qualification hanging by a thread.

But to Rune's relief, compatriot and world No.152 Elmer Møller produced an upset of his own to defeat Medjedovic from one set down, helping Denmark progress following their doubles success involving Rune and Johannes Ingildsen.

It marks the first time in Denmark's history that they have won a Davis Cup tie trailing 0-2.

For Djokovic, it's nothing other than bitter disappointment considering he was ruled out of the tie due to a hamstring injury sustained at the Australian Open.

The 37-year-old revealed a photo of an MRI scan detailing the extent of his injury, but he is expected to be in contention to compete at the Doha Open later this month.

At the end of 2024, Djokovic shared that his "main priorities are playing for Serbia and Slams, everything else is less important".

Elsewhere, it wasn't all smooth sailing for the Scandinavians, with Casper Ruud's Norway dramatically letting slip a 3-0 lead in the deciding set of their singles rubber, bowing out in qualifying against last year's quarter-finalists Argentina.
