BREAKING: SINNER ACCEPTS THREE-MONTH DOPING SUSPENSION

World No.1 Jannik Sinner will be ineligible to compete for three months after accepting a ban for failing two drug tests.

The Italian, who has not featured competitively since winning the Australian Open last month, is scheduled to return to action on May 4.

He has already served six days of suspension, with the ban coming into effect on February 9.

Sinner, 23, will be able to enter every Grand Slam tournament this year, with the French Open due to commence on May 25.

The next tournament he can enter is the Rome Masters, scheduled to take place on May 7.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), who had appealed the original decision by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), have accepted the three-month ban.

In a statement, WADA accepts that he "did not intend to cheat" and that the drug "did not provide any performance-enhancing benefit".

They added: "However, under the code and by virtue of Cas precedent, an athlete bears responsibility for the entourage's negligence. Based on the unique set of facts of this case, a three-month suspension is deemed to be an appropriate outcome."

In March last year, during a tournament in Indian Wells, it was claimed that Sinner was accidentally contaminated with a banned substance, Clostebol, by his physio through a routine massage.

Before beginning his quest to win back-to-back titles at Melbourne Park, Sinner confessed that the matter was still hanging over him.

"You think about this, of course," he told reporters.

"I would lie if I would tell you I forget. It's something what I have with me now already for quite a long time, but it is what it is."
