Storm Hunter and Ellen Perez scored a straight sets doubles win to give hope to Australia’s Billie Jean King Cup qualifying chances.

The pair won 6-3 6-4 over Kazakhstan’s Anna Danilina and Zhibek Kulambayeva at Brisbane's Pat Rafter Arena.

It’s a welcome return for Hunter who only recently returned to action after rupturing her Achilles in April last year.

"It’s extra special, it was a tough year for me," she said.

"I’ve been on the team now for 11 years but this is my first match in Australia. I’m really happy and grateful today."

Kazakhstan won the tie 2-1 with singles wins for Elena Rybakina and Yulia Putintseva.

They are in the box seat to win Group D and will qualify for the BJK Cup Finals if they can beat Colombia on Friday.

Colombia are without their top two players, so a victory seems almost impossible.

However, if the unthinkable does happen, Australia will then need to defeat Colombia on Saturday and then hope countbacks fall their way.

The straight sets victory in the doubles handed Australia a much-needed match victory that could come back to help them.
