20 year old Australian Rinky Hijikata has finished runner up at this weeks ITF 25k tournament in Setubal, Portugal.
Hijikata went down to French qualifier Arthur Cazaux 5-7, 0-6 in the final.
19 year old Cazaux is one of the highest rated French teens on the tour. Having reached a career high no. 4 in the junior ranks, and making the 2020 Australian Open boys singles final, Cazaux was awarded a wildcard into the main draw of Roland Garros earlier this year.
For Hijikata, this week is another step in the right direction. The Aussie has won three ITF singles titles this year, and improved his 2021 win/loss record to 33/11 this week. He has risen to a career high live ranking of 433.
Staying in Portugal, Australian Ellen Perez also contested an ITF 25k singles final, in Loule.
On her 26th birthday, Perez went down to No. 1 seed Harmony Tan in the final 4-6, 4-6.
Despite the loss, Perez’s ranking will also rise, to 216, which is 54 spots shy of her career high 162.
In doubles action on the ITF Tour this week, Australian duo Tristan Schoolkate and Blake Ellis came from a set down to claim the title at the 25k tournament in Nevers, France.
They defeated British pair Ben Jones and Millen Hurrion 5-7, 7-6(5), 10-8 to lift the trophy.
It’s a maiden ITF doubles title for Schoolkate, and a fifth ITF doubles title for Ellis, and his third in 2021.
