Doubles duo James Duckworth and Aleksandar Vukic were the sole Aussie winners on a tough day three in Brisbane.
The pair defeated Alex Michelsen and Alejandro Tabilo 6-2 6-3 to move into the second round.
The next face second seeds Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten for a spot in the quarter finals.
Elsewhere, it was a tough day for the Aussies.
Kyrgios goes down fighting
In his comeback singles match, Nick Kyrgios put up an epic fight against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
It was a big serving affair with the world no.31 Mpetshi Perricard going through 7-6 6-7 7-6.
Kyrgios, who was returning to singles action for the first time since June 2023, had treatment on his arm throughout the match.
"I felt relatively pretty good physically," Kyrgios said after the match.
"My legs and my body felt really good. I felt fit, and I'm in great shape, but obviously felt some discomfort with the wrist.
"There's a lot of positives. But it's how much do I want to take of the trauma on the body, the pain. Now, there's just constant pain in that wrist."
However, Kyrgios assured reporters he would be playing his doubles match with Djokovic on day four.
Popyrin upset
Alexei Popyrin suffered a surprisingly comfortable straight-set loss on court 1 to start the day, as the world No.24 went down to Italian Matteo Arnaldi 6-3 6-2.
Although ranked 13 spots lower than Popyrin, Arnaldi did have the better of their head-to-head going into the match.
Despite the loss, there can be some Australian claims due to the Italian.
Arnaldi’s girlfriend is from Melbourne and he spends a great deal of time in the city.
Two more Aussie men went down on day three in tricky first round match-ups.
Rinky Hijikata had a tough task when facing top-seed Novak Djokovic and went down 6-3 6-3.
Meanwhile, Adam Walton lost to fourth-seed and last year’s US Open semi-finalist Frances Tiafoe 7-6 6-3.
Walton, 25, couldn’t take advantage of two set points and two seperate mini-breaks in the first set tiebreak.
Aussies in Day Four Action
Kimberly Birrell starts 2025 Brisbane International action by taking on second-seed Emma Navarro on Pat Rafter Arena.

The Djokovic and Kyrgios show finishes off the day session when they take on top-seeds Nikola Mektić and Michael Venus.
18-year-old Maya Joint faces former world No.1 Victoria Azarenka in the first match of the night session.
Eighth seed Jordan Thompson finishes off day four against American Alex Michelsen.
